SRRG Engine Test

As shown in last weeks Instagram Pic of the Week, the Swedish Rocket Research Group recently conducted a test fire of its hybrid rocket engine. Unfortunately the test did not go as planned, partially destroying the engine.

“We have to repeat the test again!

The purpose of this test was to test carbon-based silicone that is intended to use as a reentry heat shield and innerliner for the composite engine.

Due to the explosion we lost all the important data. The sensors that was attached on the engine were destroyed in the explosion. And the computer that collected the data and the pressure gauges cameras were knocked out by the acoustic shockwave.”

The video below shows everything happened in a split second. The group are evaulating a possible different injector configeration in order to fix the anaomoly.
